Carbon steel is cared for almost exactly like cast iron. The grate is constructed of pickled and oiled steel, which means that there is no mill scale on it. In order for it to last, you need to oil it with olive oil, butter or lard, then put it over a fire for a few hours. Using the grate will give it more resistance to the elements, but keeping it dry will cut down on rusting. Use a brush or water and cloth to clean it between uses. Soap will destroy the seasoning.

The lower part is painted with a high temp paint to endure 1400 degrees Fahrenheit. Very little care is needed for this durable coating.
